NEXT STEPS – May 2020
The events generated by the spread of the virus and the related restrictions led us to slightly modify the course of the project. The documentary film that initially saw all around the world, instead focused on Asia. In the meantime, the social campaign has started in full course. Later, if the situation allows, other parts of the documentary will be made, creating the possibility of multiple television episodes.
COMPLEXion, the documentary
The documentary film, shot in India, Bangladesh and the USA, presents Nina Davuluri’s inner and outer journey to her place of origin. Nina talks about her life, the problems of skin color in her family and community, the victory of Miss America. On the journey he meets many young people who suffer from discrimination generated by the color of their skin. Many of the stories are intertwined with an indiscriminate use of lightening chemicals, others with socio-economic discrimination.
The documentary, lasting 50 minutes – directed by Lia Beltrami and screenplay by Marianna Beltrami – was shot entirely with the photography of the master Ferran Paredes Rubio and the editing by Simona Paggi (Oscar nomination for “La vita è bella”, David di Donatello and numerous international awards). The original soundtrack is by Anthony Mazzella and Alberto Beltrami. The production is by Nina Davuluri and Andrea Morghen for Aurora Vision. The Trentino Film Commission and the Madonna di Campiglio tourism promotion company supported the film. COMPLEXion was launched at the ITTV Festival in Los Angeles in September 2019 and will be ready for preview starting in September 2020.
