12th international award for "Alganesh"

12th international award for "Alganesh"

At the 14th Monaco Charity Film Festival, Alganesh won Best Director, the twelfth award for the film.

The documentary, set in the refugee camps on the Ethiopian-Eritrean border, moved the monegasque audience with a heart-felt screening. The awards ceremony took place in Montecarlo on Monday the 13th of May on Princess Grace Avenue. Three awards were announced: Best Actor, Best Short Film and Best Director. For Alganesh Lia Beltrami (director) and Alberto Beltrami (composer) were present and accepted the award to the tune of the Gispy Kings.

The director commented on the award: "Screening Alganesh in this city and winning this award was a real challenge. Spreading awareness on life in refugee camps is long and difficult, and cannot be faced with populism. A serious informative approach is the first step. Empathy comes easily once this is implemented. Alganesh was well-received, also thanks to Ferran Paredes Rubio's cinematography. We hope it inspires effective acts of solidarity."

This is the 12th international award for the documentary. Recent awards include Best Social Documentary at Master Doc FIlmFestival in Los Angeles and the Special Mention at Trani Film Festival. It was also rewarded in Chile, India, Italy, China and the US.

The Chinese distribution, by Wing Sight, has just started, after the success at the Silk Road Film Festival in Xi'An.
